Students Shine on PSV Eindhoven Football Tour

From 22nd to 25th May, 35 students from Years 8 to 10 at Mercia Academy swapped the classroom for the training pitch on an unforgettable football development tour to PSV Eindhoven.

Set against the backdrop of one of Europe’s most respected football academies, the tour gave our students a rare chance to train like professionals. Across three high-intensity sessions, PSV’s academy coaches put the players through their paces, challenging them physically, tactically and mentally. Our students impressed with their energy, focus and willingness to learn – a real credit to themselves and the Academy.

The tour wasn’t just about training. Our teams also faced off against strong local opposition in a competitive fixture. While the scoreboard didn’t swing in our favour, the resilience, teamwork and sportsmanship on display were second to none. The players supported each other from the first whistle to the last – exactly the kind of spirit we’re proud to see.

Off the pitch, the group soaked up the culture and history of Dutch football with a behind-the-scenes tour of PSV’s iconic Philips Stadion. From the tunnel to the trophy cabinets, it was a chance to walk in the footsteps of legends. And of course, a visit to the club shop saw many students return home with shirts and souvenirs to remember the experience.

The trip wrapped up with some well-earned downtime – a stroll through Eindhoven city centre and a lively evening of bowling brought plenty of laughs and helped the group bond even further.

Throughout the tour, our students were outstanding ambassadors for Mercia Academy. Their attitude, respect and enthusiasm shone through in every setting – whether training, competing, or exploring.

A huge thank you goes to the staff, families, InspireSport, and PSV Eindhoven for making this incredible opportunity possible. We’re confident this experience has not only developed our students as athletes but also as young people ready to take on new challenges.

Well done to everyone involved – you’ve done yourselves and our school proud. And we’ve got a feeling PSV might have gained a few new fans along the way!
